As most know the Gold Coast is home to some of Chicago’s most desirable real estate and historical architecture. Most of the glamorous homes are located along Lake Shore Drive, between Oak Street and North Avenue. The original Playboy Mansion is located within the Gold Coast. A walk along the Gold Coast’s streets can be a fun and exciting event.

On the southwest edge of the Gold Coast, along Division and Rush Streets are where the trendy bars in the neighborhood and the good restaurants. This is also the general area where you will find some of the more recently renovated Gold Coast condos which are up for sale.

Gold Coast district

The Gold Coast district is the affluent neighborhood adjacent to Streeterville. Align by beautiful mansions, high rises, row houses, luxury townhouses, beautiful condos, cooperative apartments, and a exciting nightlife, it’s no wonder that many people flock to the area.

The neighborhood was formed after the great Chicago fire when millionaire Potter Palmer moved to the area and built his 42 room mansion. Gradually other millionaire follow him and built glamorous homes near his. Eventually the area became one of the richest neighborhoods in Chicago.

Some people refer to the area as an historic district because in 1978, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. With many historic architectural buildings in the area and the Northwestern campus nearby, the community has a nice mix of different groups of people.
